Marcia Barker named Vice President of Education

HOUSTON—February 4, 2019—Quilts, Inc., the producers of International Quilt Festival and International Quilt Market, has announced that Marcia Barker has been promoted to the position of Vice President of Education.

Barker's major responsibility is to plan, develop, and administer education programs for both Quilt Festival and Quilt Market. She works closely with a blue ribbon group of experts on selection of classes and lectures, and is known for her creativity in planning special events. She will also lead a team of both full-time office and on-site show staff.

“Marcia has excelled as Director of Education since taking up the mantle of leading the Education team from her predecessor, the late Judy Murrah. Judy had singled out Marcia's leadership ability, and would be as proud of her accomplishments as we are,” says Karey Bresenhan, President/CEO of Quilts, Inc.

Quilts, Inc. Executive Vice President Nancy O’Bryant adds “Marcia's keen analytical mind and abiding interest in what quilters want to learn helps her in engaging teachers who can deliver it. In her new position, she will continue to move the division forward, as well as to develop the new Threads of Success conference.” Barker also writes the “Head of the Class” column at Quilts.com.

Held in conjunction with the fall edition of Quilt Market from October 25-28, the Threads of Success conference is geared toward those who are either new to the industry or want to break in. It will feature a series of sessions, lectures, networking events, a mentorship program, and access to the Quilt Market show floor.

2019 also marks the 45th anniversary of the Houston edition of International Quilt Festival and the 40th anniversary of International Quilt Market, and both shows will feature special programs, events, and exhibits to celebrate the milestones.

“There is no more exciting time to be in this position than now,” Barker herself says. “We are launching new opportunities to grow the industry and are looking forward to a banner year as we celebrate these  important anniversaries.”
