Head of the Class to Focus on Education Topics

August 31, 2018—Quilts, Inc., the producers of International Quilt Market and International Quilt Festival, announce the debut of a new, monthly column available exclusively on the website.

Head of the Class, written by Director of Education Marcia Barker, will focus on quilt education topics related not only to classes and seminars at the spring and fall editions of Quilt Market and Festival, but also of a much wider scope. More quilters than ever are striving to learn about the art form and improve their skills and abilities through both live and online classes, and the column will be written in Barker’s unique and relatable voice.

“I’ll be writing about personal life observations, insights into educational offerings, and new discoveries/experiences in the quilting world,” Barker says. “Quilters everywhere love to be challenged, to discover something new, to spread their creative wings, and to get the chance to see ‘how did they do that?’ in person. The Quilt Market/Festival Education department is where that happens. And while it’s hands-off while viewing quilts on the show floor, it’s hands-on in the classroom!”

In her first column, Marcia will also make a big announcement about a new Market endeavor aimed at helping prospective fabric and pattern designers, writers, and online retailers get a smart start in the industry. The tailored program—Threads of Success—will debut at the fall 2019 Quilt Market in Houston. More news and details about this exciting new venture will be available soon.

As for Head of the Class, Barker has one takeaway that she hopes all of her readers will discover. “I hope they find a new friend with a unique perspective, a trusted source of good education intel, and someone to join them on their journey,” she sums up. “We’re all in this together!”
